A few weeks ago, we introduced you to Yafet, an 11-year-old table tennis player from Toronto who trained for years with a broken, borrowed racket and more heart than most players ever find. We have an update, and it is a good one.
First, a thank you that is overdue. Yafet’s father may not have been there in person, but his support has been clear. He recently shared with us how much he believes in Yafet and supports his journey. Sometimes, simply knowing that someone believes in you can make all the difference.
This week, Yafet had a coaching session with coach Ayush at the One Yonge Community Centre in Toronto. Ayush worked with him on some fundamentals such as footwork, serves, and forehand loop. After the session, Yafet's shots became more confident and consistent. His swing got more compact, his recovery between strokes got faster.
Progress like this does not happen in isolation. It happens because a father keeps driving his son to the table, because a coach volunteers his time and expertise, and because a kid keeps showing up ready to work even when nobody is watching. Right now, Yafet has all three, and it shows.
The goal has not changed
We still believe Yafet deserves a real shot at the next Ontario Championship in the U13 category. One coaching session will not get him there on its own, but sessions like this one, stacked week after week, are exactly how a player like Yafet closes the gap between potential and results.
If you have not read Yafet's original story, it explains where this journey started and why Pong Home is raising support for his training, equipment, and tournament costs. If you have already read it, thank you, and thank you again for being part of it.
One coaching session down. Many more to go. Let's keep going. 🏓❤️
